These Wooden Coasters are crafted in the shape of Spiral Sea Shells. Set of four coasters packaged in a gift box.
Shellfish were, and continue to be, an important part of the diet of Maori. Traditionally, shellfish-gathering was the work of women and girls, who harvested a variety of species such as toheroa, tuatua and pipi, paua, tuangi, rock oyster, dredge oyster, mussels and scallops. These are still commonly eaten today.
Maori had many uses for the shells including for fish hooks, Scrapers and cutters, trumpets, jewellery, bowls and containers.
